How To Settle And Relax In A Hotel Room

Samantha Mckinney

Some people find it an unsettling experience staying in a hotel room – or any room – that is not their own. Aside from the fact that other people have been using the rooms, the unfamiliar setup can cause some confusion during night time bathroom visits, or it can be difficult to get the temperature of the room right. These factors can lead to apprehension when staying in a hotel. This article looks at a few things that can be done to help relax and settle into a new hotel room.

Escape Plan

Although it is very unlikely, it is not impossible for a fire to start in your room, or another room close to you. One of the first things to do is become familiar with the fire escape and the hotel's procedure in the event of a fire, such as meeting places. It only takes a couple of minutes to find out this information, but it can help you to relax. It could even save your life.

Visually Inspect

Some countries, especially the ones with hot climates, can attract different types of bugs and pests into the hotel rooms, due to shade and lower temperatures. There are also plenty of safe and shady hiding places for these creatures, such as in wall and ceiling corners, in the bathroom, and under the shade of the bed. Put your mind at ease by walking around the hotel room and checking any areas that could harbor these creatures. Call for staff assistance if you discover any hiding spiders or scorpions.

Check Room Temperature

Instead of using the room temperature control at night, check it works when you first move into the room. Having a night where you can't sleep due to excessive heat or cold can cause the whole experience of staying in the hotel to become tainted. Avoid this by confirming the room temperature control operates as it should before going to sleep.

Wipe Down

Although the hotel cleaners may wash the room to a good standard, it can be easy to forget or miss things such as the light switches or remote control to the television. These devices can have germs and bugs that could potentially make you ill. Take a few minutes after you enter the room to wipe down areas that may be prone to these germs, including faucets and the handle to the hotel room.
