Travelling with Babies or Toddlers: Five Amazing Hacks You Need

Samantha Mckinney

Travelling with babies or toddlers can be stressful, but with the right strategies, you can make sharing a hotel room with little ones into a fun experience. Gather as much advice as you can from friends and family, but do not forget to implement these great hacks as well:

1. Turn a Pram Ride into a Bedtime Journey

If you have a little one who is resistant to sleeping in new places, pop him or her in the baby carriage and talk a walk. While walking under the stars or through the relatively peaceful halls of the hotel, your child will hopefully fall asleep. Once they have reached the land of nod, leave them in the stroller and enjoy your evening.

2. Use Tablets and Headphones Instead of the Hotel TV

If you want to relax after the little one falls asleep but you worry about waking him or her, do not turn on the hotel TV. Instead, pull our your laptop, tablet or even your smartphone. Most hotels (like Welcome Inn 277) have Wi-fi, allowing you to watch shows from your favourite streaming service. Doing this reduces the amount of light coming into the room, and you can keep things quiet as well by using headphones.

3. Turn on the Bathroom Fan as White Noise

A popular feature of hotel bathrooms is that when you flip on the light for the bathroom, you also flip on the fan. For hoteliers, combine these elements has benefits—namely, it forces guests to keep the fan on while they take steamy showers. However, you can utilise the bathroom fan for another purpose: creating white noise and a small nightlight. That layer of white noise will shield your sleeping child's ears from the bumps and thumps of other hotel guests.

4. Rent a Suite

If you want a comfortable home away from home where your child and you can get some rest, consider booking a suite. With a suite, your child can stay in one room and you in the next. However, these rooms are conveniently joined by a shared interior door. Additionally, many suites also have microwaves and fridges, making them perfect for families with ravenous children.

5. Use Duct Tape to Baby Proof

If you want to make your hotel stay safe as well as comfortable, bring a roll of duct tape. The perfect temporary baby proofing tool, duct tape can cover outlets and keep drawers closed. When you are ready to leave, you can pull it right off without leaving a mark.
